This is legitimately one of the prettiest days I remember in a while. The Lord blew up some folks with his storms the past few days, but he's showing the other side of his awesome hands today. You can question it, but you won’t get answers. There is creation and there is destruction. That is life.
I was gonna go help Sam today, but the hellevator in the Academic Complex is on a hunger strike, and will be for a couple of weeks. That's okay. I'll help Sam and the players with the extraordinary powers of my mind and goodwill as they prepare to put on one of the best, but most unlucky things Shakespeare ever wrote- Blame the elevator on the witches.
MF from Washington, (but actually Florida, since Manhattan laughed him out of town) called me a Pellican or some shit while he played an entire tournament at his own golf club--which he won. Meanwhile, he legitimately destroyed the US economy and very likely started a pretty serious recession.
I've never owned a golf club, but if I did, I'd be afraid to ever win because every MF I know would say I cheated, whether they told it to me or not. I think Orange Leroy knows the entire world thinks he cheated, but he's satisfied they won't say it to his face. That's only true because bro won't get close enough to hear what many of us are saying.
Two of my favorite presidents were W and Obama. They were from very different parties, and very different worlds, and very different lives, but the thing they shared in common was that they made you believe that they'd shake your hand and actually listen to what you had to say. With both of them, there are so many instances of that actually happening.
My mother used to say that if "Jim Campbell ever actually ran for Governor himself, he'd have to do it with his second wife." She meant it too. Politics is extraordinarily tough on spouses. I’ve seen it go really well, and I’ve seen it go really poorly.
In Mississippi, everybody loved Elise Winter as she rebuilt the governor’s mansion. She’d stuck with him from Tax collector, to Lt Governor, to several attempts, and finally became governor. She was gracious and beautiful, and Mississippi loved her. Before her, Zelma Finch shot her husband in the Governor’s mansion. At least, that’s the story; it was never officially described that way. Officially, she spent the rest of the Cliff Finch governorship in a “rest spa” owing to a nervous condition.
I don’t even want to get into what happened with Pat Fordice, mainly because it shouldn’t have happened to her. MF could have waited till he wasn’t governor anymore to do what he did. People either laugh at Burt Case blowing up Fordice at his love nest out in Madison County, or they hate him for it. I have this feeling he did it because, like a lot of us, he liked the Mrs. much more than the Mr.
Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Bush are pretty much best friends. As a result, their husbands are too. It happens that way a lot. No man is so strong that he shouldn’t let the woman in his world shape his life sometimes. That these four people have been through what they’ve been through and come out friends amazes me.
The Clintons weren’t ever invited, partially, I think, because I’ve been around the Clintons since before they were president, and I never had the feeling they were a couple. You can tell by the way a man looks at a woman to see if he’s in love. Even if they’ve been married for fifty years, that look should still be there. W and Barack have it, Jimmy Carter had it, Ronald Reagan had it, but Bill Clinton never did.
The Carters and the H Bushs became sort of the presidential grandparents, and they filled that spot in our collective hearts. One was a handiman, who built habitat houses, while the other continued the work he started before becoming president and served on every board he could find. I told my wife that if my father had lived, that’d be us. Her father built I don’t know how many habitat houses, and my father was still serving on boards, even when he was dead.
I don’t think the current president loves his wife. I don’t think he ever did. I don’t think he loved the others either. A man should be in love. A man should allow himself to be in love and allow it to have ultimate power over him. I’ve known a lot of guys who thought women were trophies. They’re missing the point. They’re also missing out. A woman’s body is one of the most remarkable things the good lord ever molded out of the ether, but their spirit can make entirely new worlds. Guys like Finch and Trump will never see that.
Very nice story.
