The Dead Should Rest
April is Confederate History Month. Time again for endless arguments on the internet over the value and meaning of the Confederacy.
Sometimes, there is a great deal of value in letting the dead rest. Very few of these men wanted to be a soldier. Most of them lost everything they had and returned to a burnt-out and destroyed home. They never asked to be heroes. They never asked to be held up and remembered forever for doing something they didn't have much choice about to begin with.
Let the dead rest. Let the rights and wrongs sleep. There are better things to build your culture on than the suffering of all these Southern boys.
