The Last Lie
A poem on my fifteenth birthday
Coming back to the world
I made a promise
To live in absolute honesty
It was the right choice
It was the best choice
I surrender all lies and all shadows
Except one
If you see me smiling
If you see me happy
That is a lie.
I don’t know how to do these things
I never have
You don’t need them to live
I proved that.
I have work to do though
You don’t need to be happy for that
