Earlier today, a subcontractor for the UMMC school of nursing parked in a way that blocked everybody, including a bunch of students. When he finally emerged, he was dripping with sweat and covered in mud from his toes to his elbows. Suddenly, all the people who complained looked away, including me.
It reminded me of something my grandfather taught me that I sometimes forget. I call it the rule of two everybody's
Everybody got their own problems.
Everybody just wants to make it home safe.
All these people who were clean and relatively cool suddenly realized how different their day was compared to this guy. While I'm sure he was well paid, that's a pretty rough job. His son, who looked about 17, was his reluctant and surly assistant. He just wants to finish the day so he can get back to Fortnite and the endless search for a girlfriend.
Jesus said, do unto others....
Sometimes that's pretty hard to remember when you're late to class because somebody with much bigger problems is in the way.
I think about the homeless people being bulldozed out of existence all over America. Is that what Jesus wanted? These guys who just picked lettuce but now sit in alligator Alcatraz, is that what Jesus wanted?
Empathy is seriously lacking in MANY folks in the US today.
